Off-Campus Accommodation

Besides staying on-campus, some of the eligible colleagues would prefer staying in a unit off-campus to suit their family needs and living preferences.

Instead of buying property, most colleagues prefer to rent a private residential property first.  In addition, the staff buses (https://cso.ust.hk/transportation) and shuttle buses (https://cso.ust.hk/tran/stud_sh_b) services arranged by Campus Services Office cover major residential areas of Hong Kong which facilitated colleagues to commute to the University conveniently.

Renting a domestic property

Although there is no rule or regulation prohibiting people from renting a residential property from the property owner directly, most people in Hong Kong would engage a property agent to assist them.  Property agents, who are regulated by the Estate Agents Authority (EAA), have comprehensive knowledge on the leasing procedures and associated statutory requirements.  In addition, property agents normally have better market coverage than individual property owners.

In Hong Kong, people who want to rent a property may engage multiple property agents at the same time.  Agent fee shall be paid to the successful agent who make the deal.  Listed below are some of the major property agency firms in Hong Kong.

Alternative accommodation options

Other than renting a unit from private owners, service apartments or leased units from major developers would be alternatives for some of the colleagues.  Hotels would also roll out monthly / quarterly packages for interested customers.
